Since childhood MJ has been fascinated by ecology while expressing her discerning eye for the elements of art and design. Through the technical art of photography MJ is most interested in sharing connection with nature by telling the stories of people and places. Observing and conserving the environment is a life long passion that informs her work. MJ has contributed her photographs and written word to organizations communicating the value of the natural world with others. MJ strongly believes our relationship to each other and nature greatly impacts the health of this planet we all share. Social justice is intrinsic to climate justice.
MJ completed a Bachelor of Photography receiving Honours from Sheridan College in spring 2018 where she learned technical and conceptual skills. MJ also received a Board Undergraduate Certificate in Creative Studies and Creative Problem Solving from Sheridan. This focus has broadened her knowledge of the creative process. While creating with peers of other disciplines MJ experienced valuable grounding in collaboration as well as self-expression.
In the year of 2019, MJ worked on Vancouver Island with SeaLegacy and Cristina Mittermeier as an independent contractor. MJ also provided professional photography services for Destination BC, The BC Farmers’ Market Trail, and The Number. MJ was thrilled to photograph Amara Farm and several farmers’ markets, witnessing the process from farm to table in a variety of communities across Vancouver island.
In February 2020, MJ explored the people, places and culture of New Orleans, Louisiana. You can view the series here: NOLA 2020.
During 2020 through to 2022, MJ worked as a professional photographer, photo and video editor. She has been developing her own projects such as Algonquin and more!
